What’s the healing process?

  • your tattoo will be covered with an adhesive bandage called second skin, which you should keep on for one or two days

  • it’s up to you how long you keep it on, but if you have sensitive skin I would recommend only keeping it on for the first night to protect it from your bed sheets, and then take it off in the morning

  • when you take the second skin off you should do it super slowly pulling in a downwards motion, in the shower with the water running over it

  • clean it with unscented soap and water

  • air dry it or dry with a clean paper towel, your normal bath towel could have bacteria on it that you don’t want infecting your tattoo

  • spread a very thin layer of aquaphor over your tattoo only twice a day

  • when it starts to scab, switch to unscented lotion - the aquaphor can be too tacky to spread over the scabs, and could pull off the scabbing, leading to an uneven heal

  • adding to the last point, don’t pick off the scabs, & just let them fall off on their own

  • try not to touch or scratch it - if it itches, light tapping or applying lotion helps

  • stay out of the sun, and don’t put sunscreen on it while it’s healing

  • don’t submerge your tattoo in water, such as in baths or pools

  • avoid strenuous workouts while you have the second skin on so sweat doesn’t accumulate under the bandage and cause infections

  • avoid wearing tight clothing over the tattoo that could rub against it and irritate your skin

  • after it heals you can start putting sunscreen on it - protecting it from the sun will help it age the best
